Scaling and polishing
For gingivitis and early deposits. Calculus is removed from above and just below the gumline, and the gums settle within a couple of weeks.
Specialist periodontal care
Gum disease is the leading cause of adult tooth loss, and it is treatable at every stage. Our MDS Periodontist diagnoses how far it has progressed and treats it with a plan built for your mouth.

Overview
Gum disease starts quietly. Plaque hardens into calculus along the gumline, the gums become inflamed, and the body responds with bleeding and swelling. At this stage it is called gingivitis and it is fully reversible.
Left untreated, the inflammation moves deeper. It breaks down the fibres and bone that hold each tooth in place, creating pockets between tooth and gum that ordinary brushing cannot reach. This stage is periodontitis. The bone that has been lost does not grow back on its own, which is why early treatment matters so much.
A periodontist treats exactly this. We measure the depth of every pocket, take X-rays to see the bone level, and stage the disease before recommending anything. Many patients need nothing more than a thorough deep clean and a tighter home routine. Some need surgical access to clean the root surfaces properly. The examination decides, not a price list.
Treatment details
Treatment is staged. We start with the least invasive option that will work for your stage of disease.
For gingivitis and early deposits. Calculus is removed from above and just below the gumline, and the gums settle within a couple of weeks.
A deep clean under local anaesthetic that reaches into the pockets and smooths the root surface so the gum can reattach.
Where pockets stay deep after deep cleaning, the gum is lifted so the root surfaces and bone defects can be cleaned directly, then sutured back.
Once the disease is stable, a review and clean every three to six months keeps it that way. This is the part that protects the result.

Patient journey
We keep the process clear so you know what is happening at every stage.
We measure pocket depths around every tooth, check for bleeding points and mobility, and record where the disease is active.
Radiographs show the bone level. Together with the charting this tells us the stage and grade of the disease.
Deep cleaning, usually over one or two visits by quadrant, under local anaesthetic so it stays comfortable.
We re-chart after healing, typically at six to eight weeks, decide whether anything further is needed, and set your recall interval.
Why patients choose us
Dr. Niyukty Arjal is an MDS Periodontist. Gum disease is the field she trained in, not a side interest.
Pocket depths are recorded and shown to you, so improvement is measured rather than described.
We do the least that will work. Surgery is recommended only when deep cleaning has been given a fair chance first.
Gum disease is a long-term condition. Your maintenance interval is set deliberately and reviewed at each visit.
Aftercare
A soft brush angled into the gumline twice a day removes far more than hard scrubbing, which only damages the gum.
Interdental brushes sized to your gaps, or floss where the gaps are tight. Most gum disease lives between teeth.
Smoking both worsens gum disease and masks the bleeding that warns you about it. Quitting measurably improves treatment outcomes.
Treated gums stay healthy with regular professional cleaning. Skipping recalls is the most common reason disease returns.
Common questions
Gingivitis, the early stage, is fully reversible with professional cleaning and good home care. Once bone has been lost in periodontitis, that bone does not return on its own, but the disease can be stopped and the teeth kept stable for years. This is why an early examination matters.
Deep cleaning is done under local anaesthetic, so the treatment itself should not be painful. Gums can feel tender and teeth a little sensitive for a few days afterwards, which settles.
Teeth can feel slightly different as swollen gum tissue shrinks back to healthy contours, and some patients notice more space between teeth. The teeth are not being loosened by the cleaning. Where mobility is already present we will tell you before treatment.
Most patients complete deep cleaning in one or two visits, then return for re-evaluation about six to eight weeks later. More advanced cases may need surgical treatment after that stage.
It depends on how many quadrants need deep cleaning and whether surgery is involved. We give you a written estimate after the examination and charting, before any treatment starts.
